Transylvania Tour 6 Days Itinerary

Day 1 Bucharest to Sibiu

On the first day of the Transylvania Tour 6 Days we drive through the Carpathian Mountains towards the charming town of Sibiu. Here we walk the cobble stone streets to spot the famous ‘eyes of Sibiu’, climb the Council Tower and walk over the Bridge of Lies. Overnight in Sibiu Old Town.

*Between July 1st and October 31st the route from Bucharest to Sibiu goes through the  Transfagarasan Road with stops at Curtea de Arges Monastery, Vidraru Dam and Balea Lake.

Day 2 Ancient Fortresses and Gothic Castles

Day 2 of our itinerary takes us to see two hidden gems of Transylvania. In the morning we explore the ancient fortress of Sarmisegetusa Regia, a 2000 year old citadel cloaked in mystery.

In the afternoon we arrive in Hunedoara to visit Corvin Castle. This 15th century castle is the poster child of Gothic castles: cold, mighty and full of dark legends. In the evening arrival in Deva and check in to accommodation.

Day 3 Alba Carolina and Cluj- Napoca

On the third day of the Transylvania Tour 6 Days make our way towards the town of Alba-Iulia to visit the star shaped fortress, Alba Carolina. With a history that goes back to Roman times, Alba Carolina is an important landmark for the history of modern Romania. It is the place where the Union of Transylvania with the rest of Romania has taken place in 1918.

After Alba Carolina we drive to Cluj-Napoca where we will be lodging for the night. Cluj-Napoca is a bustling city with beautiful old architecture, friendly people and cool places. Our tour of Cluj includes: St. Michael’s Church, Unirii Square, Museum Square, Banffy Palace, the Matthias Corvinus House.

Day 4 Salt Mines and Cobble Stones

From Cluj-Napoca, the tour goes to the salt mine in Turda. An old salt mine turned into an underground park: take a boat ride on the lake, play games or just wonder the galleries while inhaling the healthy air of the mine.

Once we re-surface we make our way to Sighisoara, a UNESCO heritage site. The tour of Sighisoara includes: The Clock Tower, the Dracula House, the Venetian House, the Stag House, the Student Stairs and the Church on the Hill. Did you know this is the birthplace of Vlad Dracula? Overnight in Sighisoara.

Day 5 Saxon Heritage

Day 5 takes us to the Transylvanian country side and the picturesque Saxon village of Viscri. We take a ride in an authentic wooden carriage pulled by horses and and eat at the locals.

Day 6 Famous Castles

On the last day of the Transylvania Tour 6 Days, we start our program with a visit at Dracula’s Castle in Bran village. The Dracula Castle is so famous that a visit to Transylvania cannot be complete without it. Discover how this castle became the den of the vampire count and what is the link between book Dracula and Vlad Dracula.

The afternoon is filled with a visit to another famous castle: Peles Castle. The former summer residence of the royal family, is such a stunning building that it is considered one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe. The perfect place to end our Transylvanian adventure.

We are in Transylvania, and Transylvania is not England. Our ways are not your ways, and there shall be to you many strange things. Nay, from what you have told me of your experiences already, you know something of what strange things there may be.
