Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Bucharest

Airport/train station/border pick-up and transfer to your accommodation in Bucharest city center. Your guide will be welcoming you and you will have an orientation session and discussion over the itinerary. Welcome dinner at traditional restaurant in Old Town. Overnight in Bucharest.

Day 2 Bucharest City Tour

We start the morning with a walking tour of Bucharest city center to discover the exciting stories Bucharest has to tell. We’ll visit the Romanian Athenaeum, Revolution Square, Victoriei Blvd and Old Town. In the afternoon, we go on a visit to the Palace of the Parliament. Overnight in Bucharest.

Day 3 Mud Volcanoes and Wine

We depart Bucharest and head towards the red wine region of Romania - Dealu Mare. In the morning we stop to the peculiar mud volcanoes to find the bubbliest, angriest, mud spitting volcano. The afternoon is spent trying Romanian wine. With over 2000 years of tradition in wine making, we have a lot to show for in the quality and variation of our wines. Day 4 Towards The North

We start our journey towards the far North of Romania, the idyllic Bucovine with its rolling hills and ancient monasteries. On our way we stop at Agapia monastery, one of the largest nuns monasteries in Romania. Here we can witness the craft of traditional carpet weaving. Before reaching our end destination, Gura Humorului, we stop at the Neamt medieval fortress for a visit.


Day 5 UNESCO Painted Monasteries

Day 5 of the Visit Romania Tour is dedicated to visiting the colorful painted monasteries of Bucovina. One by one, Moldovita, Sucevita, Humor and Voronet show us their stories through color and medieval artistry. We also visit a local museum of painted eggs, a specialty of Bucovina.

Day 6 Over The Mountain Pass

We leave the East for the West where the picturesque land of Maramures lies. To get there, we travel through the North Carpathians, over the Prislop Mountain Pass, one of the oldest commercial routes of Romania. Once in Maramures, we visit Ieud wooden church, UNESCO heritage site and the oldest wooden church in Maramures.

Day 7 Maramures - The Land of Traditions

This is the day we explore Maramures. In the morning we drive to Sapanta to experience one of Romania’s peculiarities: The Merry Cemetery with its death defying poems. In the town of Sighetu Marmatiei we visit a former Communist prison turned into a Memorial for the victims of the regime. In the afternoon we stop at Barsana Monastery, visit a traditional water mill in Sarbi and learn more about the unspoiled village life of Maramures.

Day 8 Transylvanian City Life

We leave the Northern region and continue our journey towards Cluj-Napoca, a bustling Transylvanian city and Romania’s second largest city. After check in we go on a walking tour of the Old Town with the St. Michael’s Church, Unirii Square, Museum Square, Banffy Palace, the Matthias Corvinus House. Leisure time in the afternoon and evening to enjoy one of the many chic cafes of Cluj.

Day 9 Salt Mines and Ancient Fortresses

First stop of the day is Turda Salt Mine. This is an old  13th century mine turned into a spectacular underground park. Learn about the the millennia old salt mines of Romania while inhaling the healthy salty air. Second stop of the day on the Visit Romania Tour is Alba Iulia with its star shaped fortress, Alba Carolina. In the evening we arrive in Sibiu where we overnight.

Day 10 The Heart of Transylvania

We wake up in Sibiu, a town famous for its ‘eyes’ and charming houses. We go on an explore tour of the cobble stone streets and afterwards we depart towards our next destination of the day: Biertan fortified church. This is a UNESCO heritage site and an impressive example of medieval architecture. At noon we arrive in Sighisoara, a quintessential Transylvanian burg. Walking tour of Sighisoara takes us up the Clock Tower, to the Stag House, the Venetian House, the Dracula House and to the Church on the Hill. Overnight in Sighisoara.

Day 11 Transylvanian Village Life

Day 11 brings us to the village of Viscri where we experience a one of a kind adventure in Romania; a ride in horse pulled carriage through the village of Viscri. We visit the fortified church, also a UNESCO site and have lunch and dinner at the locals. The peaceful bliss of village life, interrupted only by the famous geese of Viscri.

Day 12 Dracula’s Truth

What would a Romania tour be without a visit to the infamous Bran Castle also known as Dracula Castle? Up and down the stairs, room by room, this controversial Gothic castle shares its secrets with us. Once we’re done with Bran, we drive to the nearby town of Brasov where we spend the rest of the day.

Day 13 Back To The Beginning

The last full day of the Visit Romania Tour takes us back to Bucharest but not before we visit a very special castle of Romania: Peles Castle. The former summer residence of the Royal Family is considered to be one of the most beautiful palaces of Europe. Some of our guests even say it’s better than Disneyland. After Peles we drive back to Bucharest and check in your hotel in Bucharest city center. Goodbye dinner in Bucharest.
